B.C. reports COVID-19 data from Dec. 18 to 31

B.C. has provided two weeks’ worth of COVID-19 data in the latest report from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

In the first reporting period (Dec. 18 to 24) there were 556 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C., and in the second reporting period (Dec. 25 to 31) there were 693 new cases, for a total of 1,249 cases over the two-week period. Since the pandemic began, there have been 393,145 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in B.C.

Of the new cases, 376 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 410 in the Fraser Health region, 185 in the Island Health region, 230 in the Interior Health region, and 48 in the Northern Health region.

As of today, there are 356 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C., 25 of whom are in critical care.

There were 199 new hospital admissions in the first reporting period (Dec. 18 to 24) and 123 in the second reporting period (Dec. 25 to 31), for a total of 322 new hospital admissions over the two-week period. Of those, 109 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 110 in the Fraser Health region, 48 in the Island Health region, 36 in the Interior Health region, and 19 in the Northern Health region. According to the BCCDC report, the numbers for Dec. 25 to 31 are expected to increase as data become more complete.

There were 39 new critical care admissions in the first reporting period (Dec. 18 to 24) and 45 in the second reporting period (Dec. 25 to 31), for a total of 84 new critical care admissions over the two-week period. Of those, 21 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 33 in the Fraser Health region, eight in the Island Health region, 13 in the Interior Health region, and nine in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, the numbers for Dec. 25 to 31 are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The 30-day all-cause mortality report, which includes COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related deaths occurring within 30 days from a positive lab result, indicates there were 50 deaths between Dec. 18 and 24, and an additional 13 deaths between Dec. 25 and 31, for a total of 63 new deaths over the two-week period.

Of those who died, 16 lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 18 in the Fraser Health region, 10 in the Island Health region, 15 in the Interior Health region, and four in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, the numbers for Dec. 25 to 31 are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the previous week (Dec. 11 to 17) increased to 41 from the 22 originally reported two weeks ago.
