New school board sworn in

Tuesday, Nov. 14, the first meeting of the Richmond school trustees since the civic election started with a traditional greeting from Indigenous Elder Roberta Price, welcoming the trustees to the traditional territory of Musqueam People.

After a welcome by Sherry Elwood, district superintendent, Brighouse Elementary School choir, under the direction of teacher Robin Anderson, led attendees in the singing of O Canada. The Brighouse choir then offered a second song for the assembled trustees and guests.

Once the trustees were sworn in, Ken Hamaguchi was elected as chairperson and Sandra Nixon was re-elected as vice-chairperson of the board.

Our board of education meets at 7 p.m. in the board room at the school district administration offices, 7811 Granville Avenue, Richmond, on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, with a few exceptions. Board meetings are open to the public.

Meeting agendasand reports are posted to the school district’s website on the Friday prior to each meeting. Minutes of meetings are posted to the website following approval at the subsequent meeting of the board.
