Local charity Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG) is now accepting applications for its 2020 Neighbourhood Small Grants program.

In partnership with the Vancouver Foundation and the Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC, the program gives Richmond residents an opportunity to apply for up to $500 in funding, which can be put towards community projects like block parties, urban gardens, and cultural celebrations.

“This is the program’s seventh year in Richmond, and it keeps getting bigger,” says Ed Gavsie, president and chief executive officer of RCRG. “It’s wonderful to see neighbours, who perhaps didn’t know each other that well, come together and bond over a community project. It’s a powerful way to break down barriers.”

Last year, RCRG awarded Neighbourhood Small Grants to 38 community projects – a new record. The funding, $18,980 in all, supported everything from an origami club, to a Venezuelan cultural celebration, to a pollinator-friendly garden at Richmond Secondary School.

“Your project is only limited by your creativity,” says Gavsie. “If you had $500, what would you do to make your community a better place? Now, every Richmond resident has a chance to answer that question.”

To apply, visit www.neighbourhoodsmallgrants.ca, and select Richmond as your community. From there, you can complete an online application form. The final day to apply is April 9.
