In an update yesterday, Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported a total of 50 new cases of COVID-19 over a 48-hour reporting period.
The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province is now 103.
The Fraser Health region has seen two new long-term care outbreaks. In total, 20 facilities and three acute-care units have active outbreaks, with outbreaks declared over at 12 care facilities.
Dix and Henry also provided an update on active community outbreaks announced last week: 25 employees are confirmed positive at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam and 34 employees at United Poultry in Vancouver.
The Mission Institution federal correctional centre now has 118 inmates and staff who have tested positive.
Henry and Dix said the rate of transmission is slowing thanks to continued efforts to practice safe physical distancing and self-isolation. New community outbreaks are being identified and handled thanks to increased surveillance testing.
Plans are being made to ease restrictions and find a “new normal” in the coming weeks.
