An online auction raised more than $10,000 toward the replacement of a withering wooden playground at Diefenbaker Elementary School.

Organizer Luella Cook said the community donated 191 items, with many receiving bids that exceeded the value of the items.

Among the most popular items were the Men in Kilts window cleaning service, a Harrison Hot Springs visit, a bouldering outing, and a birthday party at Wayland Sports.

Cook said she was overwhelmed by the community support for the auction, with so many individual and business donations, and nearly 2,000 bids registered.

“The stories are heartwarming and again just point to the generosity of this community and the willingness of people to support something totally different,” Cook told The Richmond Sentinel. “Many people had very positive feedback and were very happy with the items that they bought.”
