Registration will soon open for a program
that helps the needy during a very special time of year.
Richmond Christmas Fund registration begins
Saturday, Nov. 25, with low-income local individuals and families getting a
helping hand from the Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives program during the festive
season.
While adults receive grocery vouchers so they
can enjoy a holiday meal with loves ones, children will receive toys, books, and
sports equipment while teens will receive gift cards.
“2017 marks the 85th anniversary of the
Christmas Fund,” says Ed Gavsie, president and CEO of Richmond Cares, Richmond
Gives. “The program has been a part of the community since the 1930s, which is pretty
incredible. It shows that Richmond has a long history of supporting our
neighbours in need.”
Registration for the program launches Nov. 25
and will be held over four consecutive Saturday, with the last opportunity on
Saturday, Dec. 16.
To qualify, individuals must bring picture
identification, CareCards for all family members who are being registered,
proof of residency in Richmond, and an original document showing they’re
enrolled in an approved government income assistance program.
For a complete list of registration dates and
times, and eligibility requirement and necessary documentation, visit rcrg.org
or call 604-279-7035.
The Christmas Fund is a non-religious, non
discriminatory program that is open to anyone who needs help getting through
the holidays.
The program is supported mainly by community
donations, as well as assistance from nearly 200 volunteers.
