High schools raise over $20,000 for food bank

Richmond high schools are donating over $20,000 to the food bank. Initiated by McRoberts co-presidents Madhav Chhibbar and Benita Cui, the original goal was $1,000 from each of the 10 secondary schools.
In total, 8,800 food items were collected for the Richmond Food Bank, as well as 2,000 face masks and $20,411.85. Every dollar donated is stretched to $6 by the food bank, which uses the money to distribute fresh fruit and vegetables, proteins and dairy products.
“Despite clubs and student councils navigating the challenges of connecting during COVID, it was heartening to see this student idea come together so quickly and for all high schools to participate cooperatively,” said Jim Allison, district principal responsible for supporting student leadership.
“Dedicated teachers and staff sponsors guided and provided support, but the initiative, planning, leadership and results accomplished by students was very inspiring.”
