For the fifth consecutive day, B.C. recorded less than 100 new COVID-19 cases. The last time this happened was late August 2020.

The 87 new cases reported today bring the province’s cumulative total to 147,271. This number also includes a correction to remove three previously reported cases.

Of the new cases, 13 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 30 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region and 41 in the Interior Health region. There are no new cases in the Northern Health region.

There are 1,119 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 109 of those people are hospitalized, 41 of whom are in intensive care.

To date, 4,570,153 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 1,051,910 of those are second doses.

This means that 77.2 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 75.8 per cent of those 12 and older have now received their first dose of a vaccine. This number is a correction from what was previously reported due to some second doses that were incorrectly classified as first doses. Additionally, 24.3 per cent of adults and 22.7 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received their second dose.

Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported today, bringing that total to 1,744.

Health authorities reported two new healthcare facility outbreaks, including the one at Minoru Residence in Richmond. There are now active outbreaks at four long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities and one acute care facility.
