Single-day deaths spike today

In the last 24 hours, 11 people died due to COVID-19 in B.C.—the highest single-day toll since Oct. 22.
Of those who died, two lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, five in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region and one in the Interior Health region. To date, 2,234 virus-related deaths have been reported in the province.
Health officials also reported 555 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 210,758 cases.
Of the new cases, 50 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 197 in the Fraser Health region, 88 in the Island Health region, 114 in the Interior Health region, 106 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 4,321 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 404 of those people are hospitalized, 117 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 8,373,682 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,003,628 of those are second doses.
This means that 90.9 per cent of adults and 90.5 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 87.0 per cent of adults and 86.4 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
Health authorities reported three new healthcare facility outbreaks and declared six over. Active outbreaks continue at 14 long-term care facilities, seven assisted or independent living facilities and eight acute care facilities.
From Nov. 2 to 8, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 63.1 per cent of cases and from Oct. 26 to Nov. 8 they accounted for 70.8 per cent of hospitalizations.
