Richmond RCMP are looking for dash cam footage following an incident involving an alleged assault of an officer.

The officer was attempting to arrest a man for alleged theft when he was purportedly assaulted. The incident took place on Dec. 2 around 6:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of No. 3 Road.

During the attempted arrest, a struggle on the ground ensued. The man was able to break free and run from the area on foot before additional officers arrived. Fortunately, the officer sustained only minor injuries.

“This is a busy area of the city at that time of day and we know there were people as well as vehicle traffic in the area at the time,” says Cpl. Adriana O’Malley. “We are asking anyone who was in the area to review their dash cam footage and reach out to us if you locate footage of the arrest.”

Anyone who may have witnessed, or have dash cam footage, is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2021-32962. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit them online at www.solvecrime.ca.
