After Wednesday’s announced outbreak at a Vancouver poultry company, Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced a second poultry facility outbreak yesterday.

Superior Poultry in Coquitlam now has two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In total, 20 facilities and three acute-care units now have active outbreaks, in addition to the two poultry companies and a federal correctional centre in Mission.

Dix and Henry announced 29 new cases yesterday for a total of 1,824 in BC. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths is now 94.

Henry said British Columbians have demonstrated safe behaviour and encouraged continued efforts, including connecting with others from home.

“We need to be very careful, and we need to be thoughtful about it. A misstep in the wrong direction puts us all at risk, because we have seen how quickly this virus can take hold and can be transmitted and cause serious illness, hospitalizations, and unfortunately deaths,” she said.

“This is not forever. It is for now, and now may be months, it may be as long as a year. But there is a light at the end of that tunnel, and we have shown that we can do this. We have shown that in the last few months. We will get through this storm working together in the best and safest possible way. Now is not the time to tip the scales against us with careless action.”
