Richmond’s emergency response centre has been a success so far.
After opening in May, there were seven clients staying at the centre after its first week of operation, said city spokesperson Kim Sommerville. During its second week of operation, that number jumped to 12—11 men and one woman.
Some of those clients were receiving mental health support from Vancouver Coastal Health, said Sommerville.
This week there are 16 clients—14 male and two female. As well, there are seven new referrals in progress, which will bring the total number of residents to 23.
The average age of the current clients is 45. Two are under age 25, and five are over age 65.
The centre is a collaboration between the city, Turning Point Recovery Society, BC Housing and Vancouver Coastal Health.
