COVID-19 in B.C.: 974 new cases, 22 deaths since Friday

B.C. health officials reported 974 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 348,305 cases.

Of the new cases, 100 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 230 in the Fraser Health region, 215 in the Island Health region, 319 in the Interior Health region, 110 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 549 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 85 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,339,815 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,299,888 of those are second doses and 2,580,562 are third doses. 

This means that 93.6 per cent of adults, 93.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.6 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.1 per cent of adults, 90.7 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.3 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 57.7 per cent of adults and 55.7 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were 22 new COVID-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 2,873. Of those who died, two lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, five in the Fraser Health region, five in the Island Health region, four in the Interior Health region, and six in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 25 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility, and two acute care facilities.

From Feb. 18 to 24, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 20.7 per cent of cases.
From Feb. 11 to 24, they accounted for 32.9 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 118 (3.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 2,750 (79.3 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Feb. 11 to 24)—Total 569

• Not vaccinated: 163 (28.7 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 24 (4.2 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 382 (67.1 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 18 to 24)

• Not vaccinated: 139.9

• Partially vaccinated: 53.5

• Fully vaccinated: 60.2

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 11 to 24)

• Not vaccinated: 46.4

• Partially vaccinated: 20.8

• Fully vaccinated: 8.1
