YVR continues to see significant snowfall with crews working to keep runways, taxiways, and aprons clear. In total, we have observed around 20 centimeters of snow accumulation on our airfield, and our dedicated teams are clearing our north, south and crosswind runways – equal to almost nine kilometers in length – to maintain operational safety.
Due to the rate of snowfall, we are seeing ongoing impacts to flight schedules in the form of delays and cancellations.
Safety remains our top priority. While our teams are actively clearing snow and ice, and operating our de-icing facilities, fewer flights are able to arrive and depart in response to winter weather conditions.
Currently, approximately 80 per cent of scheduled flights are operating. While there are a number of cancellations, many have been put in place proactively by our airline partners as we manage aircraft movement at YVR to the extent current weather systems will allow.
Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead.
Check the status of your flight with your airline before coming to the airport. If your flight has been delayed or canceled, it is best to rebook online or over the phone, rather than come to the airport. Many airlines, including Air Canada and WestJet, currently have flexible rebooking policies in place.
