It wasn’t quite a silent night, but holy cow, were Richmond residents on their best behaviour on New Year’s Eve.

Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang said there were a number of additional officers working on New Year’s Eve to ensure public safety, including at an enforcement off of the Knight Street Bridge, next to the Staples on Bridgeport Road.

Police attended to 51 files, Hwang said, but he added: “we did not encounter any reported collisions or public disturbances.”

Thousands of drivers were checked at multiple checks and road blocks, but only two alcohol-related interactions were recorded, Hwang said.

A great end to 2018 and a perhaps a positive sign of what’s to come for 2019.

Happy New Year!
