Richmond promising an un-boo-lievable Halloween
Halloween promises to be particularly
spook-tacular in Richmond this year.
From Wild Things at Richmond Nature Park to
pumpkin decorating at Hamilton Community, there’s plenty of opportunity to
display your creative side. Or enjoy skating at Minoru Arenas in your costume
or go trick or treating along the Britannia Shipyards National Historic site
boardwalk, and listen to spook-tacular stories at Richmond Public Library’s
Brighouse branch.
“These low cost or free events (more than 20
in all) offered by the City and its partners continue to build a great sense of
community spirit,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Richmond continues to be a
leader in providing high quality and safe Halloween experiences for all ages.”
Remember to cap off all the fun Halloween
night, Oct. 31. There are five free community fireworks displays to choose
from:
• Halloween Fireworks Festival, 6:30 to
8:45 p.m. at Minoru Park. Music, dance demonstrations, entertainers, children’s
activities, inflatable corn maze, trick-or-treating, fire juggling and a
spectacular fireworks finale at 8:30 p.m.
• Hugh Boyd Park (West Richmond) at 8:15 p.m.
• McLean Park (Hamilton) at 8:15 p.m.
• South Arm Park at 8:15 p.m.
The city is reminding everyone of the dangers of fireworks
and firecrackers. They are also illegal to possess, buy or sell in Richmond.
Under Richmond’s Fire Protection and Life Safety Bylaw 8306, offences and fines
include purchasing fireworks ($1,000 fine), displaying fireworks for sale
($1,000 fine), selling or distributing fireworks ($1,000 fine) or possession of
fireworks without a permit ($200 fine). A zero tolerance approach will be
taken.
