Art to celebrate activity at Minoru

David Jacob Harder is hoping that “Together”
Richmond will celebrate active living through art.
Commissioned to create a large-than-life work
of art outside the new Minoru Centre for Active Living which is scheduled to
open later this year, the artist hopes to represent Richmond’s diverse
community by collaborating with those currently using the Minoru precinct
facilities.
Harder will be hosting several public open
house photo sessions through Friday (May 25) in Minoru Park to introduce
residents and facility users to the project, hear local stories, and take
photos of individuals to contribute to the final artwork. Drop by the Your
Minoru tent on the Latrace Field plaza Wednesday (May 23) from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
or Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
He and his team also plan to photograph
people in a variety of activities from swimming to dancing to running. The
photos will be used to trace silhouettes that will compose the artwork of an adult and child walking
hand-in-hand to the entrance of the new complex.
The new 10,219 square metre (110,000 square
foot) Minoru Centre for Active Living complex, currently under construction,
will house aquatic, fitness and seniors services as well as multipurpose and
support spaces for field sports and park users.
